Hosting of Anti-Smoking Event in Madinah


Preserving a healthy environment in the city

MADINAH: In order to preserve the Holy city’s cleanliness an awareness event titled “Together to Make the Haram Area Smoking-Free” was organized under Presidency for the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque.

The event incorporated two lectures by Dr. Mohammed bin Jaber Al-Yamani, head of the pharmacology department at King Saud University, at Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Faleh hall. Al-Yamani stressed on the importance of making Madinah a smoke-free city, especially around the Prophet’s Mosque for keeping it clean.

He also recalled some of the Sunnah and Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to preserve the city’s cleanliness, palm trees and birds.

He further reviewed anti-smoking efforts in the Kingdom, including a royal decree banning smoking in government offices and public spaces, and around spaces of worship. Al-Yamani discussed the dangers of smoking as well as passive smoking.
